Isochronous
Isochronous 2020 sound and sculpture cast iron weights, paint, varnish, wood, headphones, sd-card 52 x 25 x 9 cm Weights: 28 x 25 x 9 cm
Three painted iron cast weights stacked against each other in rest or in the waiting position to be activated. In between actions. They seem both to be discarded, left behind or possible in use but with the absence of the body. They become an image and sound of memory, resonance of time and performative actions.
Ekholm recorded 4 sets of breathing from choreographed exercises in his living room. Influenced by Beckett the breathings are repeated, looped, reversed as in caught in a space of no beginning or end. The sound spells out from the private space of headphones (not to be worn) both acting as eavesdropping and intrusion in both directions of the listener and the passer-by.
Breathing makes us coming back to ourselves, back to our bodies but also to catch a breath, to exhale, to gasping for air, the be in an act of passion, out of breath to be fit or unfit, taking deep breaths for health and life.
